Advocates take on various roles in their protégés' lives depending on the age, interests, and needs of the protégé.

Citizen advocates take part in a variety of activities depending on the needs and interests of the protégé with whom they are paired. While all advocates adopt the roles of friend, supporter, protector, spokesperson, and community liaison, protégés range in age from children to adults, diversifying the path each advocacy relationship takes.

  • Speak out against abuse or neglect while working to ensure a higher quality of life
  • Work for better educational opportunities and support learning and advancement
  • Assist with financial planning, budgets, job outreach, shopping, and other day-to-day living needs
  • Visit individuals in institutions or hospitals while ensuring appropriate care and/or treatment is provided
  • Take part in various social activities such as sporting events, parks, playgrounds, plays, movies, and other happenings
  • Provide companionship, encouragement, advice, and friendship
  • Participate in seasonal activities such as Christmas tree decorating or pumpkin carving
  • Share meals, stories, and experiences
  • Protect the interests of protégés
